What Is Saint Patrick's Day ?

Saint Patrick's Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, "the Day of the Festival of Patrick")  is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland.

Who celebrate this Day ?

Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world; especially in Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.

The Symbol 

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's Day grew. Green ribbons and shamrockswere worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to thepagan Irish, and the ubiquitous wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs has become a feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, to make a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name.

Thanksgiving

  Thanksgiving adalah hari libur nasional dirayakan terutama di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada. Thanksgiving dirayakan setiap tahun pada hari Kamis keempat bulan November di Amerika Serikat dan pada hari Senin kedua bulan Oktober di Kanada. Karena tradisi lama liburan, perayaan sering meluas ke akhir pekan yang jatuh paling dekat dengan hari itu dirayakan. Beberapa tempat lain di seluruh dunia mengamati perayaan serupa. Thanksgiving memiliki akar sejarah dalam tradisi agama, tapi hari ini dirayakan dengan cara yang lebih sekuler.

                                         Mayflower 

Pada bulan September 1620, sebuah kapal kecil yang disebut Mayflower kiri Plymouth, Inggris, membawa 102 penumpang-bermacam-macam agama separatis mencari rumah baru di mana mereka bisa dengan bebas mempraktekkan iman mereka dan orang lain terpikat oleh janji kemakmuran dan kepemilikan tanah di New Dunia. Setelah persimpangan berbahaya dan tidak nyaman yang berlangsung 66 hari, mereka menjatuhkan jangkar dekat ujung Cape Cod, jauh di utara dari tujuan mereka dimaksudkan di muara Sungai Hudson. Community Collage

A community collage (or two-year collage) is a good place to begin your education in the U.S. The tuition is usually cheaper than university. Because a community collage is often smaller than university, foreign students are often comfortable. They are closer to their professors and get more attention.
Truman collage is a typical community collage. It is one of seven City Collages of Chicago. It is a two-year collage on the north side of Chicago. It is near public transportation-buses an trains-so it is convenient for everyone. For students with a car, parking is free. Credit classes are $75 per credit our for Chicago residents. Adult education classes are free.
Truman Collage is an international school. Many of the students are from other countries and are in ESL courses. Some the students are immigrants. Some the students are international students. International students are in the U.S. only to study. Tuition for international students is much higher.
Many of the students have jobs, so evening and weekend classes are convenient for these students. Some students have small children, so Truman has a child-care center.
The semester is 16 weeks long. A summer semester is 8 weeks long. Students are free to choose there own classes. And one of community collage in Virginia Beach is TCC (Tidewater Community Collage)

About Me

My name is Tiara Nur Amin. I am from Indonesia. I am student at UNAS. My major is Midwife, actually this is my second year I am in the University, but my father want me to come in the US. I am not married, but I have someone whose important in my life. Today is 2 months for me in the US, it's very wonderful, the third weeks here, I passed the written test drive in DMV, and I should pass practice test of drive 60 days later, meanwhile I entered in ALC (Adult Learning Center) to improved my English, I entered in Low Intermediate, an my class is Monday-Friday at 11.30 AM - 02.00 PM, ALC is very good place to start my education here, because not only improve my English but also get the certificate High School here, but I should pass the GED test first. I will take GED class on November 05, 2012, at 08.30 AM - 11.37 PM, it's perfect time for me. And the next step is enter in helper nurse course until 3 month and directly get the job in SENTARA Hospital.
